Today I had my first weaving class on a traditional Mayan loom. Let me tell you, the time and effort that goes into the beautiful textiles of Guatemala are nothing short of incredible! I spent two hours learning a basic technique and I only completed about six or eight inches of fabric! My instructor, Lidia Lopez, is a woman from San Antonio Las Aguas Caliente- known for the finest textiles in all of Guatemala. Lidia spent four hours before our class just getting the loom set up for me! Each week she is going to teach me a more complex form, so hopefully I will have some more pictures of the actual process and an update as we progress!
