Saturday was Dia De Los Muertes, or "Day of the Dead" in most Latin American countries, and Guatemala definately knows how to celebrate! I spent my day with friends at one of the countries biggest celebrations: the Sumpongo Sacatepequez kite festival. These beautiful masterpieces are constructed of bamboo and tissue paper and are all a part of a competition not only judged by thier artwork, but also for how well they fly. Families gathered around the Sumpongo cemetary with favorite food and drinks of thier deceased love ones and then gathered in the huge stadium up the hill to watch the contest. It was a beautfiul windy day, and all of us had to keep watch for kites gusting out of control and crashing on us from above! Hope you enjoy these pics!
